"I am a pro-life Christian who believes that Christ's teachings support the
philosophies of limited government and free market economics. Democrats tend to
believe that Christ supports using government force to make people be
charitable, and Republicans tend to believe that Christ support using government
force to make people adhere to certain moral standards. They are both wrong. The
legitimate role of a just government is to keep people safe from those who would
do them harm (foreign or domestic). While food, shelter and health care are
important and to some extent necessary for life, they are not rights. The only
legitimate rights are those which, when exercised, do not infringe on the rights
of other individuals. Saying that food is a right means that government must
provide for those who do not have food by taking it from someone who does - this
is theft, not charity ... and the 10 Commandments clearly state "Thou Shall Not
Steal" ... even if it is approved of by a democratic vote. Mob rule does not
legitimize unrighteous acts."
